Lead@ISPOL

This animated gif-movie (16 MB) was recorded from the bridge of RV Polarstern while anchored to the ISPOL floe from 28 November, 2004 to 2 January, 2005. One image was taken every hour with a webcam showing the opening and closing of the lead in front of Polarstern as a response to ice divergence and convergence due to wind and tides. The ISPOL floe is located to the left. Once in a while, seals and people working on the ice or at the floe's edge were photographed.
